Post to Slack

Create an incoming webhook and choose when wrkflow posts: a survey goes live, a daily digest, new responses.

On the Team plan and above, an admin adds a Slack channel and chooses what wrkflow posts: when a survey is first published (later Publish changes aren’t announced), a daily digest of live surveys after 09:00 in your organization’s time zone, and, if you choose, each new response. Editors can also post a survey’s link from its Share page.

Before you start

  • A Slack app with Incoming Webhooks turned on, and permission to add it to the channel.
  • wrkflow doesn’t use OAuth and can’t read anything in Slack. It only needs one incoming webhook URL for one channel.

Set up

  1. In Slack, open your app’s Incoming Webhooks page, turn them on, choose Add New Webhook to Workspace and pick the channel. Copy the URL, which starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.
  2. Open Integrations, then Slack, and choose Add channel. Name it, paste the URL and choose what to post.
  3. Choose Send test and check that the message arrives in the channel.

What leaves wrkflow

  • Counts and rates only: the survey’s title, how many responses it has, how many are new, and how many invited people have responded as “n of N”, with a link to the results. Never answers.
  • A post about one new response to a named survey’s personal link may name that respondent. Anonymous surveys are never named.
  • Posting a survey’s link from its Share page sends the public link, the note the member typed (up to 500 characters) and the member’s name or email.
  • The webhook URL is a secret. wrkflow keeps it out of reach and the page shows only its host and last characters. Replace URL swaps it for a new one.

If something goes wrong

  • The URL is refused: Slack webhook URLs start with https://hooks.slack.com/services/. Copy the webhook URL itself, not the channel link.
  • Slack responded 404, no_service: the webhook was removed in Slack. Create a new one and choose Replace URL.
  • Slack responded 403, action_prohibited: a Slack admin restricted the app. Ask them to allow it, or use another channel.
  • The channel didn’t answer within 10 seconds: Slack was slow, and the post is retried automatically.

Recent posts on the Slack page show each post and its outcome. See Integrations for the statuses and how to ask support.
