Run a live poll

Ask a room one question as a quick poll, word cloud, rating, ranking, open text or Q&A, and watch answers arrive on a join code.

Open Polls and choose New poll, then pick what kind of question you're asking:

  • Quick poll: one choice, or several, from up to 12 choices.
  • Word cloud: each person enters up to three words or short phrases, sized by how often they come up.
  • Rating: a 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 scale with a label at each end. Results show how many chose each number and the average.
  • Ranking: people put up to 10 options in order, by dragging, with the arrow buttons or with the keyboard. Results show the average rank.
  • Open text: short written answers of up to 200 characters, shown as a wall.
  • Q&A: the room asks questions, optionally with a name, and upvotes the ones they want answered.

Joining

Every poll gets a six-character join code. People open the join page on their phone, enter the code or scan the QR code on the poll's page, and answer. Each browser answers once, and can upvote each question once. The page is in the person's language when wrkflow has it, and works on small phones.

Presenting

Open Present for a full-screen view, or stay on the poll's page. Choose Open voting when you're ready and Close voting when you're done; Reopen voting to collect more.

What the audience sees

Choose whether the audience sees results as votes arrive, only when the poll closes, or never. For a Q&A this decides whether people see each other's questions, which they need to upvote. You always see everything on the poll page and the presenter view.

Moderating written answers

  • Email addresses, phone numbers and the other personal data wrkflow recognises are masked before anyone sees them, you included.
  • Admins can keep a list of blocked words and phrases in Settings → Live polls. A word cloud entry, answer or question that contains one waits for you instead of showing. Matching ignores case and accents and only matches whole words.
  • Turn on Approve before showing to hold everything for your approval.
  • On the poll's page, Waiting for approval lists what's held, with Approve and Hide. You can hide anything that's already showing, and bring it back.
  • In a Q&A, Highlight puts one question on screen as Now answering, Mark answered moves it down the list, and sorting is by most votes or newest.
Showing and hiding answers, and changes to the blocked words list, are recorded in the audit log. Clear votes (or Clear questions) to rehearse: people can answer again afterwards, and it's recorded too. Export CSV on the poll's menu includes each written answer with its status, never who wrote it.
