Read answers in your language
See written answers translated into your own language, with the original one click away.
When respondents write in different languages, every member can still read the answers in their own. It is off until an admin turns on Translate answers in Settings → Machine translation, and it is on the Team plan and above.
Choose your reading language
Open Settings → Profile and choose a Reading language. Until you do, it follows your browser's language, and English when that isn't one we can translate into. It is yours alone: another member can read the same answers in a different language.
Choice and question labels also show in your reading language, wherever the survey has that translation.
Translate answers
- On Responses, choose Translate all to translate the answers on the page, or open a response and choose Translate for just that one.
- On Summary, written answers have a Translate button for the answers shown.
- On a follow-up, the matched answer can be translated too.
- A translated answer says which language it was written in. Choose Show original to read what the person wrote, and Show translation to go back.
- Answers already in your language are left as they are.
Each answer is translated once per language and kept, so reading it again costs nothing and loads immediately. Next time you open the page the translation is already there.
Export with translations
In the Export menu, choose Excel or CSV with answers translated. Each question with written answers gets a second column in your reading language. An export translates up to 2,000 answers at once: filter first if there are more. The export is recorded like any other.
What is sent and what is protected
- Only the written part of answers is sent: short text, long text and the text typed for Other. Answers to sensitive questions are never read for translation.
- Who answered, their details, hidden fields and file names are never sent.
- Personal data in a written answer, such as an email address or phone number, is masked before it is sent, and translations are always stored masked. Names written in free text can't be detected, which is why an admin decides whether answers are translated at all.
- The original you switch to follows your organization's rules, as ever: members without access to personal data see it masked.
- In anonymous surveys nothing identifies anyone, and answers are only translated once the survey has enough responses to be shown.
